DESIGNING FOR CHANGE

At Lyon Design Lab we feel fortunate to do work we love and help clients live better lives.

We aim to expand the reach of our good fortune by

  • partnering with organizations focused on work that aligns with our values

  • committing ourselves to those values in everyday practice

  • involving our clients in the pleasure of giving by donating a portion of profits from each project to a partner organization or partner project of the client’s choosing

OUR VALUES

  • Gender Equality

Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Lyon Design Lab is owned and operated by women and mothers. We built it for our daughters. We believe ensuring equality among all genders is essential to a peaceful and prosperous world. We give a portion of our profits to I Demand Access, a Malawian grassroots organization, which pays the fees, uniforms and supplies for girls in Malawi to go to school and pursue education.

  • Education

Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Those who have access to education become better citizens and are able to shape a better society. We give a portion of our profits to ParCo, an organization in Mozambique that runs a local preschool and pays school expenses for children who otherwise don't have access to education.

  • Environmental Health

Ensuring a healthier planet for future generations is a commitment that requires dedication and behavioral change. We reuse and recycle our inventory packaging and our inventory pieces are often repurposed or upcycled (as a bonus, we think it adds charm and character to the spaces we design). And, our partners focus on environmental causes at a local level, such as sustainable farming, beach cleanups and saving endangered species.

MEET ONE OF OUR PARTNERS

Parceiros Comunitarios (ParCo) was started by Ilidio Cole, a Mozabiquan fisherman, and Juliet Lyon, our sister, who moved to Mozambique to join the Peace Corps and ended up living and working there for over a decade.

Ilidio and Juliet believe that community-led development is more effective than international development at creating lasting change that has a direct impact on peoples’ lives and the environment.

ParCo’s mission is to help local groups create solutions to environmental and social changes.

Over the past 5 years, ParCo and its army of volunteers have cleaned up local beaches, sent children to school, opened a preschool, protected children with albinism, worked to protect the sea horse population from poaching and more.

ParCo’s great work has not gone unrecognized. ParCo was recognized in 2021 by CNN in its Call to Earth Day.
